British stage hit One Man, Two Guvnors is eyeing a Broadway run under the auspices of producer Bob Boyett, according to Variety. The move could potentially take place within the 2011-12 theater season, but no timeline has been set and the availability of a Broadway theater has yet to be determined.
One Man, Two Guvnors, which is currently running at London’s National Theatre through September 19, will then head off on a monthlong U.K. tour before settling down at the West End’s Adelphi Theatre from November 8 through February 25, 2012. Directed by National Theatre Artistic Director Nicholas Hytner, One Man, Two Guvnors is also scheduled for a September 15 broadcast as part of the National's NTLive series of HD cinemacasts.
Boyett has previously partnered with the National Theatre on Broadway transfers of Tony winners War Horse, which is also produced by Lincoln Center Theater, and the 2006 smash The History Boys.
Sex, food and money are high on the agenda in this English version of a classic Italian comedy. Fired from his skiffle band, Francis Henshall becomes minder to Roscoe Crabbe, a small-time East End hood, but Roscoe is really his sister Rachel posing as her own dead brother, who’s been killed by her boyfriend Stanley Stubbers. Francis takes a second job with one Stanley Stubbers, who is hiding from the police and waiting to be re-united with Rachel. To prevent discovery, Francis must keep his two guvnors apart.
James Corden stars in the U.K. production, where he is joined by his "two guvnors" Oliver Chris and Jemima Rooper as well as David Benson, Tom Edden, Martyn Ellis, Trevor Laird, Claire Lams, Fred Ridgeway, Daniel Rigby and Suzie Toase; with Owain Arthur, Polly Conway, Derek Elroy, David Hunter, Paul Lancaster, Gareth Mason and Clare Thomson. One Man, Two Guvnors features designs by Mark Thompson, lighting by Mark Henderson, music by Grant Olding, sound design by Paul Arditti, fight direction by Kate Waters and choreography by Adam Penford.
